Carolyn Sue Gilliam died on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Ellison House in Greenfield, Indiana, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Carolyn was born May 5, 1937, in Eustis, Florida, to Lloyd B. and Donnie L. Moore. She was a 1955 graduate of Eustis High School. She graduated with a BA in education from Anderson College in 1960.
She retired from elementary education after having taught first graders in Florida, and then in Alexandria and Orestes, Ind., for more than thirty years. Her students were her delight. She stayed in touch with many of them and enjoyed seeing them around town. Her first grade stories were colorful and touching.
Carolyn was well known as a great southern cook and was first in line to bake for church or school events or for someone who needed a meal. She was famous for her fresh coconut cake.
She brought fifty years of mellow alto to her church choir or anywhere people were singing. Beginning as a youth in Eustis, Carolyn sang duets and trios with her siblings. At North Anderson Church of God on North Broadway, she sang duets with her brother and trios that included cousin, Sandy Baker. She sang with Madison Park Church of God choir until the time of her illness.
Preceding her in death are her parents and her husband, Alton Gilliam.
She is survived by her brother, Ron (Jan) Moore of Alexandria, IN; her sister, Fran (Bob) Huffer of Fort Myers, FL; greatly treasured nieces, Heather Hodson, Kristen Owens, Valorie Turner; nephew, Todd (Lori) Jenkins; several great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to join with Carolyn's brother and sister to drink coffee, share stories, sing some of her favorite songs and remember her Tuesday morning February 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, Anderson. Please use the West front entrance.
Private internment will take place.
