Obituary

WELLESLEY HILLS -- Celestino T. "Sonny" Ranieri, 90, of Wellesley Hills, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Northeast Specialty Hospital in Natick, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Sylvia J. (Lambert) Ranieri for 67 years.

Born in East Boston, the son of the late Tito and Concetta (DiTrofio) Ranieri, he had lived in Wellesley since 1943. He was a well-known fruit and vegetable peddler in Faneuil Hall Market Place from 1933 to 1973, and he had worked at St. Regis Paper Co. in Newton from 1973 to 1980.

He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Theodore A. Ranieri of Southborough, Joseph R. Ranineri and his wife, Jane, of Holliston, Louis L. Ranieri and his wife, Lourdes, of Needham, and Sylvia Ranieri of Wellesley; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Oscar, Anthony and Alfred Ranieri, Elvira DiGacamondre, Anna Grillo, Gina Beddia and Lucy D’Agostino.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, at 10:30 a.m., from George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., Wellesley, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m., at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, Newton Upper Falls.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
