Obituary

Glenn E. Peabody, 77, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 surrounded by family in the Arbors of Bedford, NH following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. He was born in East Derry, NH on April 12, 1941, a son of the late Bertrand and Goldie (Chase) Peabody. He was a resident of Derry and Shelburne, NH for many years. A graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Derry, Class of 1959, he later graduated Cum Laude from Springfield College in 1963 with a BS in Psychology. Following his father, Bertrand, into the family business as co-owner of the Peabody Funeral Home, Derry, Glenn graduated from the NE Institute of Anatomy and Embalming in Boston, MA in 1964.

Glenn had been a member of numerous organizations over the years, including the Kiwanis Club, Knight of Pythias Rockingham Lodge #2, St. Marks Lodge #44 F & AM where he was an Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32 degree Mason, the Square and Compass Club, the I.O.O.F where he served as Past Noble Grand, and the Bektash Temple. He also served as President of the Greater Derry Chamber of Commerce, and was a Director of the Derry Bank & Trust Company for many years. In earlier years, he enjoyed building several "Hot Rods" and had been a member of the Rockingham Motor Mounts. Glenn enjoyed traveling the country with his wife in their motorhome and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Assoc. and the Good Sam Club. Loving the outdoors, he enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, on and off-road motorcycling, hunting and was a member of the NRA. For many years he wintered in Melbourne Beach, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet C. (Ryan) Peabody of Derry; two sons, Erik E. Peabody and his wife Carrie of Auburn, NH, Craig B. Peabody and his wife Jennifer of Londonderry, NH; four grandchildren, Jacob and Travis Peabody both of Londonderry, and his twin grandchildren Kylie and Ryan Peabody both of Auburn; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Stratton.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, February 17th from 2 – 5pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed at 5:00pm in the funeral home. Following cremation, he will be buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in the Spring.
