FALL RIVER… Jacqueline R. (Castonguay) Merkt, 79, of Fall River passed away February 9, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
She was the widow of Stephen Merkt.
Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Castonguay and Gertrude (Baker) Bowden and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Mrs. Merkt was a communicant of the former St. Anne’s Church and had worked for many years as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Anne’s Hospital. She enjoyed singing, going to yard sales and watching the Boston Red Sox, but nothing could surpass her love for cats.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Jay Pelletier and Talia Pelletier; her great grandson: Jaxon Pelletier; her siblings: Evelyn Cabral, Corrine Gomez and William Bowden; her daughter-in-law: Kim Castonguay; several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Mark Castonguay and sister of the late Joseph Baker, Ronald Castonguay, David Dowden and Sandy Rodriguez.
Funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held February 14, 2019 at 8 PM at South Coast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant St. Fall River, MA 02723. Calling hours will be held from 5 – 8 PM, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacqueline’s name can be made to Forever Paws, 300 Lynwood St. Fall River, MA 02721.
