Obituary

Irvin E. Bedard, age 93, passed away on Feb. 4, 2019 at the Holyoke Heath Care Center. He was born on Nov. 15, 1925 in Northampton, MA, a son of the late Ovile and Clementine (Boucher) Bedard. Irvin was a communicant of Assumption Church. He Joined the US Army and served at the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He later worked as a supervisor at the Kenneth Damon and Colby Machine Company for many years before he retired in the 1990’s. He became a volunteer at the Chicopee Council of Aging, the Chicopee Police Sub Station in Willimansett and also for Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen for many years. He is survived by his loving wife Ethel LaPlante of Holyoke; 1 son, Charles Bedard and his wife Ann of Central Islip, NY; 2 daughters, Karen Lewis and her husband Robert of Elgin, S.C and Carol Ruyffelaert and her husband John of Leeds, MA; 9 grandchildren, Robert Lewis and his wife Kristi, Greg Lewis and his wife Frances, David Lewis and his wife Andrea, Jennifer Labrie and her husband Tim, John Ruyffelaert, Jacob Ruyffelaert, Justin Ruyffelaert and his fiancé Haley and Jillian Ruyffelaert. He also leaves his beloved 8 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Lori Bedard who passed away in 2014, his granddaughter Elizabeth Lewis and also by all of his siblings. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 9:00 AM at the Grise’ Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by a Mass of Chrisitian Burial in Assumption Church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
