Obituary

Donald R. Cardoza, 87, of New Bedford passed away Monday February 4, 2019 surrounded by his family after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Pauline M. (Monteiro) Cardoza.

Born in Falmouth, the son of the late Manuel and Evelyn (Barrows) Cardoza, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Donald was formerly employed as a manager at Pa Raffa’s Restaurant for many years, where he was affectionately known as “Burns.”

He was an avid antique car enthusiast.

He is survived by his children, Wendy L. Mello and her husband Tom of New Bedford and Corey A. Cardoza and his wife Mary of Acushnet; his siblings, Rose Marie Lombard and her husband Charles of Harwich and Daniel Cardoza of Maryland; three grandchildren, Jessica Mello and her fiancé David Currin, Sarah Mello, and Amy Cardoza; two great-grandchildren, Jayell Pina and Ella Rose Currin; his in-laws, Joseph “Billy” Monteiro and his wife Margie, Mary Ames, Betty Ann Fermino, and Elizabeth Cardoza; his Godson, Douglas Barrows; his companion, Dawn Caton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Louis Cardoza, Melvin John Cardoza, Manuel Cardoza, Jr., Jeannette Almeida, and Nancy Cardoza.

His Funeral will be held on Saturday February 9, 2019 at 8:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 10 AM.
