Obituary

Marilyn K. Emig, 78, of Chester, NH passed away Saturday February 2, 2019 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born January 25, 1941 in Dover, NJ and was a daughter of the late Franklin and Emma (Voelker) Lowerre.
Marilyn was employed in banking and worked for Bank of America for many years until she retired in 1993. She was an avid quilter and a longtime member of the informal Village Green Quilters. Marilyn, along with the other quilters, sewed beautiful quilts for “Quilts of Valor”. These one of a kind masterpieces are made with love and presented to severely injured service men and women to thank them for their service and let them know they will never be forgotten. Another group quilt was signed by the Chief of Staff, USAF, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Vice Chairman, before being presented to a wounded warrior who suffered serious injuries in Afghanistan incurred from an improvised explosive detonation. Marilyn also made hanging American Flag quilts and they were presented to the Commander, 55th Wing, Offutt AFB, NE, the wife of the Vice Commander, 55th Wing, Offutt AFB, NE and the Governor of Nebraska. During that time Marilyn attended an Air Show at Offutt AFB where she was able to meet and speak with several Make A Wish children and their families, whom she treated with great warmth and kindness. Her friends from the quilting community were very special to her. In addition, her neighbors also held a special place in her heart.

One of many visits with her sister and brother in law, Marilyn and Frank attended a Marine evening parade in Washington, DC to honor the Secretary of Defense William Gates for his service to our country upon retirement.
Marilyn will forever be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who cherished her family.
