New Bedford – Joao Rodrigues, age 82, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Isabel (Varela) Rodrigues.
Joao was born was born in Brava, Cape Verde Islands and was the son of the late Francisco Rodrigues and Laura Correia. He had worked as a fish cutter at local fishing houses.
He is survived by his children, Manuel Varela Rodrigues, Henry Rodrigues, Maria F. Correia and Francisco S. Rodrigues; 10 Grandchildren; great-grandchildren; siblings, Beatrice Baptista, Genia Soares, Maria Rodrigues, Amelia Costa, Elena Rocha, Alfredo Rodrigues and Selvina Lopes; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Francisco Rodrigues and brother of the late Alfredo Rodrigues.
Joao’s visiting hours and services will be held Thursday morning at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 – 11:30 A.M. with a service to begin at 11:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
