Joseph A. Cappadona, 97

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Joseph A. Cappadona, age 97, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield, formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Katherine D. (Renzella) Cappadona, to whom he was wed for seventy-four years.

Born in Newton, MA on August 22, 1921, he was a loving son of the late Antonio and Maria (Bonica) Cappadona.

Joe grew up in Newton and was a 1939 graduate of Newton High School. He began his studies at Boston University, leaving school to proudly serve his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. Upon being honorably discharged from the service, he returned to Boston University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Cappadona had been employed as a production controller at Jet Spray in Waltham for twenty-one years. Following retirement, he worked part time as a driver for ADP Payroll Services.

A resident of Mansfield for the past twelve years, Joseph was a former lifelong resident of Newton and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Newton.

Joe was a family man whose family was the focal point of his life. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, listening to Italian, country and western music, clipping coupons and loved driving.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Joseph A. Cappadona and his wife Candy of South Yarmouth, Mary Lou Grella and her husband Robert of Easton, Barbara A. Cappadona and her husband Gary Fisher of Medway, Thomas P. Cappadona and his wife Suzanne of North Attleboro, Peter Cappadona and his wife Sandy of Foxboro and John R. Cappadona and his wife Kelly of Northboro. He was the cherished grandfather of P.J., Katie, Annie, Julianne, Jack, Courtney, Michael, Joe, Elizabeth and Maura and the great grandfather of Thomas, Jack, Peter and Cory. He was the dear brother-in-law of Anna Taranto of Medfield and her late husband Angelo, Yolanda Santamaria of Danville, New Hampshire and her late husband Stephen and Frank Fasano of Mansfield and his late wife Mafalda. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.


His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 6th at 10:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Church, 1317 Centre St., Newton Centre. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 5th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
