Mr. Nathaniel Thomas Veteran
January 25, 2019

Obituary

Nathaniel Thomas was born in Williston, Florida on July 14, 1945, the only
child of James Thomas and Bessie Davis (who both preceded him in death).
He graduated from Williston High School in 1963 and went on to barber
college in Jacksonville, Florida. Nate answered Uncle Sam’s call in 1965
and served proudly in the United States Air Force.

One of Nate’s greatest passions was playing the guitar. He played with
various bands in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. One of his greatest
achievements was playing guitar alongside Walter Orange the lead singer of
the legendary group the Commodores. Not long ago, Nate had the pleasure
of reuniting with Walter at a concert held at Foxwoods Casino where they
reminisced about old times and exchanged pictures. His all-time favorite
guitarist was George Benson.

Nate was affectionately called “Nay” in the south but adopted the nickname
“Nate” when he settled in Massachusetts. Further down the road, he went by
the name “Mr. T” and proudly displayed that moniker on all the caps he
wore.

Nate was a kind and loving sole with the comedic wit of Richard Pryor. He
enjoyed being the “Dr. Phil” in the family and was know for taking one of
his children, grandchildren, niece or nephews aside and offering a
philosophical word of advice.

Nate is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Gayle, son Daniel, daughter
Sabrina, granddaughter Chanel (who he had the pleasure of raising),
granddaughters Monica and Latisha and grandsons Sean, Eric and Alonzo Jr.
along with 8 great grandchildren. Also mourning his loss is his uncle James
and aunt Maggie, many cousins, various other family members and a
multitude of friends.

Your fight is over Mr. T. Please rest in peace and know that your legacy
will live on forever. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

His Funeral Service will be celebrated in the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the church, prior to the service, from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will be held in Williston, Florida, at a later date.
