Obituary

James Leonard “J. L.” McMillan, Jr., 91, of Enigma passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019, at Turner Primitive Baptist Church in Enigma with the Rev. Phillip Nichols officiate. Mr. McMillan will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma. The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Turner Primitive Baptist Church in Enigma.

Jake McMillan, Josh Hall, Reece Hall, Jerry Tolle, Matt Riggins and Chad Hughes will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Turner Primitive Baptist Church in Enigma and Mr. McMillan’s caregivers.

Born April 2, 1927 in Berrien County, Mr. McMillan was the son of the late Lula Owens McMillan and Elder James Leonard McMillan, Sr. He was also preceded in death by five sisters. Before retiring, he was the Personnel Manager at Armour, Inc. in Tifton; a salesman for Moorman Manufacturing Company in Quincy, Illinois; and a farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served on the Berrien County Board of Education. He attended Turner Primitive Baptist Church in Enigma. In his former church, he had served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher.

Mr. McMillan is survived by his wife, Lucile Ray McMillan of Enigma; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Brenda McMillan of Americus, Mike and Stephanie McMillan of Forsyth and Kip and Lisa McMillan of Eatonton; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jerry Hall of Enigma; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
