John C. Reale. 82

Dateline: Norton, MA

John C. Reale, age 82, of Norton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lynne (Green) Reale, to whom he was wed for fifty-seven years.

Born in New Bedford, MA on December 8, 1936, he was a loving son of the late Jasper and Ruth (Wright) Reale.

John grew up In New Bedford, was a 1956 graduate of New Bedford High School and furthered his education, graduating from Fitchburg State College in 1961. Following graduation, he proudly served his country for three years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Upon being discharged, he received his MBA from UMASS in Dartmouth and continued serving for twenty-one years in the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring at a Lieutenant Colonel.

Mr. Reale retired as the president of Crown Tanks, Inc. in Taunton and had previously been employed as a director of planning standards and distribution at Ocean Spray and also as a former vice president at Weetabix.

A resident of Norton for the past thirty-one years, John’s memberships included being a past president of the Bourne Rotary Club, a member of the Camp Cachalot Alumni Association of Boy Scouts of America in Plymouth, a member of the Marine Corps Association a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Norton, a former member of the board of trustees for the Winnecunnet Shores Condominium Association and a member of the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club.

John’s favorite times were those spent amongst his adoring family. He enjoyed following the stock market, playing cards and was an avid New England Patriots fan.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Susan Reale of California, Kathleen Reale and her fiancé William Deiana of Hopkinton and Ruth Ann Cote and her husband David and their children Catherine, Jack and Sam of Hopkinton. He is also survived by his dear sister Susan Wright and her fiancé William Benedetti of Florida, formerly of New Bedford.


His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, February 1st at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00 P.M.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 31st from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, it is preferred that donations in his memory be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans. 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
