Obituary

James P. "Jim" McGoniagle, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 87 years of age.

Jim was born in Cambridge on April 6, 1931, a son of the late Patrick McGoniagle and Mary (Geary) McGoniagle. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1948. Jim enlisted into the United States Army on September 8, 1948 and served his country faithfully and with courage during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on June 23, 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. Jim worked as a Foreman for Revere Sugar Refinery in Charlestown for over 20 years before it closed in the 1980's and then worked as a Foreman at both Orion Research in Cambridge and T-Cell Science in Needham. Jim enjoyed traveling to Lakeville to his summer cottage and also enjoyed just taking long rides in his car.

Jim is the loving companion of 31 years to Valerie Hall. He is the beloved husband of the late Grace K. (Collins) McGoniagle. He is the devoted father of Patricia Lynch and her husband William and Karen Spinali and her husband Joseph. He is the loving Grandfather to Kristyn and her husband Peter, Jeffrey, Lauren and her husband Harry, Andrew and his wife Robin, Colleen and her husband Michael, Nicole, Kaitlyn and his great-grandchildren Lucas, Benjamin, Nora, Jack, Owen and Emily. He is the beloved brother of Nancy Francini, Kathleen Mansfield, William McGoniagle, Paul McGoniagle and the late John McGoniagle, Robert McGoniagle and Stephen McGoniagle. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's Funeral on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 AM. His burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
