WEBSTER – Chester W. Starzec, 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 26, 2019 in Brookside Healthcare Center.
He leaves his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Irene J. (Gabor) Starzec; 2 sons, Paul D. Starzec and his wife Dorothy of Charlton and Peter W. Starzec of Webster; a grandchild, Erin Cothern; a sister, Frances Lavallee of Webster; a brother-in-law, Alex Gabor of Oak Harbor, WA; 3 sisters-in-law, Shirley and Anna Gabor and Annette Starzec, all of Webster; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, William, Raymond and Edward Starzec and by a sister, Emily Jajko.
He was born in Webster, the son of Alexander A. and Veronica (Motrucinski) Starzec and lived here all his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1941.
He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a pharmacist’s mate third class in the Normandy invasion and in the Pacific Theatre. He belonged to the American Legion in North Grosvenordale, CT.
Along with his 3 brothers, Chet ran and was the president of Webster Bottling Company. He then was a custodian at Bartlett High School, retiring in 1990.
He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica. He and Irene loved to travel. In his youth, he played a lot of baseball. He also loved playing horseshoes at the camp with family and friends. He was a great husband and father. The Starzec family would like to thank each and every member of the staff at Brookside Healthcare for helping them during this difficult time.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 29, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 Tuesday morning in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.
