Carlene E. Darby

Andover – Carlene E. Darby, wife of the late Thomas M. Darby passed away peacefully at the Prescott House in North Andover surrounded by her loving family on January 23, 2019.

Born in Nashua NH, March 5th 1933, she was the daughter of former Andover Superintendent of Schools Edward I. Erickson and Arlene Erickson.  Carlene graduated from Methuen High School, class of 1951. She continued her education graduating from Lowell Teachers College and then Salem State College receiving her Masters’ Degree in Education.  A passionate teacher, Carlene taught school in the UK and the Andover School System for over 30 years. She loved everyday teaching starting in kindergarten at Shawsheen School and transferring to West Elementary teaching first and third grade until her retirement.
 
She married Thomas M. Darby of Andover on June 28, 1958. Tom and Carlene raised their children, Ed, Eric, and Carlene in Andover. Carlene was a proud member of The Andona Society, South Church, and was involved in various Andover clubs. After retirement, Carlene and Tom enjoyed dancing and spending summers with family and friends at Pawtuckaway Lake, Nottingham NH, Hampton Beach, NH and cold New England winters at Jensen Beach Florida, FL.

She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Edward and his wife Angela of Guilderland, New York, Eric John and his wife Kathleen of Haverhill and daughter Carlene Ellen Hackett and her husband Bill of Andover. Grandchildren David, Carlene, Tom and Katherine Holloway of Andover, Darby Hackett of Andover, Patrice Poirier and her husband Jared of Bradford, Conor Darby of Haverhill and Matthew Darby of Guilderland, New York. Great grandchild Logan Poirier.

Carlene was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas M. Darby, her parents Edward and Arlene Erickson.  She is predeceased by her siblings Patricia Erickson and Eddie Erickson who died of complications of Cystic Fibrosis at young ages.

The family would like to thank the Prescott House for their love and compassion during her time as a resident.

Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 3 to 6 PM. Interment will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
