Richard M. Colombo, 89

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Richard M. Colombo, age 89. of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Wingate at Norton. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine M. (Albertini) Colombo, to whom he was wed for sixty-three years.

Born in Brockton, MA on February 10, 1929, he was a loving son of the late Michal and Cinderella (Lalli) Colombo.

Richie grew up and was educated in Brockton where he was a standout baseball player and while in school led the American Legion Team to a National Championship and was signed up by the Chicago Cubs as a minor league AAA pitcher.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany where he played baseball and football and following his honorable discharge played one more year in the minor leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

A resident of Mansfield for twenty-three years, he had also made his home in East Sandwich for thirty-two years. Prior to retiring, Mr. Colombo had been employed as a Quality Control Inspector for the Kao Corporation.

Richie was a member of the American Legion and was an accomplished golfer with fourteen validated holes-in-one. He was also a skilled bowler and an all-around natural athlete.

Mr. Colombo will always be remembered as a true gentleman who was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Lisa M. Middleton of Vermont, Vicki A. Reed and her husband David of New Hampshire and Lynette L. Boldrighini and her husband Neal of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Brian, Gregory, Peter, Anthony, Nicole, Matthew, Melissa, Allison, Emily and Benjamin and the treasured great grandfather of Michael and Oonie. He was the dear brother of Norma Dias of Raynham and the late Louis Colombo, Edward Colombo, who is survived by his wife Pat, Carmen Saggesse, Clementine Cuddi and Alisay “Allie” Colombo. He is also survived by several generations of loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, January 30th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 29th from 5:00- 8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
