Obituary

Mr. John J. McNamara, a resident of Methuen, formerly of Lawrence, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Friday evening, January 18, 2019. He was 87 years old.

John was the beloved husband of the late Jean L. (Cassidy) McNamara. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 24, 1931, he was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Ruth (Shea) McNamara. John attended St. Augustine School in Andover, Central Catholic High School, where he was captain of the Hockey team and Merrimack College. Mr. McNamara was a US Navy Korean veteran, entering the military at Lawrence on August 16, 1950 and receiving his honorable discharge from Boston on June 3, 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal for his service. In civilian life, John worked as a Project Manager for technology companies and retired from Hewlett Packard.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Bruins, skating and playing golf. Above all he was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. John is survived by his loving daughters; Ruth Ann Reddy of Hampton, New Hampshire and Ellen M. Reusch and her partner John M. Belko, both of North Andover, grandchildren Caitlin and her husband Jedd Canane, Nicholas and his wife Kate Reusch, Meghan and her husband Mark Gravison and Erin Reddy, great-grandchildren; Liam and Connor Canane, Tess Reusch and Logan Gravison and several nieces and nephews. John was the father of the late Joseph McNamara. He was also the brother of the late Thomas and Richard McNamara.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, from 5 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Donations in John’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
