Elizabeth “Betty” Gergen passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, January 16, 2019, having achieved the age of 95 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, her brother Rodney, her sister June, her infant sister Dorothy, and her brother-in-law Darrell.
Betty Jane Elaine Duncan was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 1, 1923, the oldest of four children of Howard and Mabel Duncan of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1941 and married her childhood sweetheart Jim Gergen on January 26, 1944.
Jim and Betty lived in West St. Paul before building their dream home on Olson Lake in Lake Elmo, Minnesota in 1958. They were married for 63 years before Jim passed away in 2007. To this union were born four children. Betty was a loving wife and devoted mother and treasured family gatherings and times spent with special friends.
Betty is survived by her children Kathy (Pat) Coury of Stacy, Jim (Debbie) of New Ulm, Bob (Ann) of Lake Elmo, and Sue of Vadnais Heights; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Verlaine Duncan; and many nieces, nephews, and several cousins. A Funeral Service in her honor will be held on Saturday (1/26) 11:00 AM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., with visitation 2 hours prior to service. In lieu of flowers, Memorials preferred to The Animal Humane Society of Minnesota.
