Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Arthur J. “Archie” Pease, 71, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, January 18, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on December 9, 1947, a beloved son of the late George H. Pease, Jr. and Isabelle M. (Gagnon) Pease. He was raised in West Springfield and moved to South Hadley in 1964 where he graduated from South Hadley High School in 1967. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War serving for 13 months in Danang and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his military service, he returned to the area and moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1973. He was employed at the former National Blank Book Company, now Specialty Loose Leaf Inc., in Holyoke and retired in 2015. During his leisure time, Archie enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Westover Golf League in Chicopee. During his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and playing pool. He also enjoyed his many trips to try his luck at Mohegan Sun Casino and occasionally to the many casinos in Las Vegas. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby where he was a member of the Men’s and Women’s Club of the church and was the recipient of the Veteran of the Year Award in 2018 from the parish. Most of all, he enjoyed game nights with his family. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Carol G. (Labrie) Pease. They were married on May 2, 1970 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter, Barbara A. Pease and her husband, Carl T. Bannon III, of Hudson, NH; his seven dear siblings, Elizabeth Pease and her husband, Ted Belhumeur, of Pompano Beach, FL, William Pease of Bradenton, FL, Mary “Kathy” Vaillancourt and her husband, Jimmy Stewart, of Sarasota, FL, Leonard Pease of Springfield, Donald Pease and his wife, Linda, of Riverton, IL, Robert Pease of Jacksonville, FL and Margaret “Peggy” Giaramita and her husband, Joe, of Palmetto, FL; his dear sister-in-law, Judy Blanchard of Enfield, CT; his dear brother-in-law, Paul A. Labrie of Granby; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Pease and Labrie families. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, George Pease, III. His Funeral will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 State Street, Granby, MA 01033. His Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
