Eleanor Thompson Roath, age 89, a New London native, died June 24, 2002 in Cary, North Carolina.
She was born November 21, 1912 in New London, the daughter of Florence May (Chapman) Thompson and Franklyn Everet Thompson. She was the sister of the late Ellery Thompson, Mystic author and artist who died in 1986.
She spent her early years in New London, married and had three daughters. She worked locally, including at the Electric Boat Company, before moving to Florida in 1955.
She lived there for many years, working as a secretary-receptionist before retiring in 1990. She then moved to the Raleigh, North Carolina area to be close to her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Diana Roath of Apex, NC, Babs Hovey of Morrisville, NC and Nancy Heckard and her husband Paul of Hilton Head, SC; grandsons Matthew Heckerd of Mesa, Arizona, Gene Hovey of Raleigh, NC, Scott Hovey of Island Lake IL; granddaughters Holly West of Durham, NC and Jill Parker of Selma, NC and eight great-grandchildren. Her niece Louise Thompson, nephew Morris Thompson, and Truman, her beloved puppy also survive her.
Funeral services were held in Apex, North Carolina. A graveside service and interment will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 10:00 AM in Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic. There are no visiting hours.
