SPENCER: Gloria V. (L'Heureux) Butler, 95, longtime resident of Spencer and recently of Overlook in Charlton, died Thursday, Jan. 17 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

She was the wife of Richard A. Butler who died in 1997. She leaves her sons; Joel D. Butler and his wife Barbara of West Newbury, David J. Butler of CT, and Eben J. Butler and his wife Tammy of Spencer; grandchildren: Jason, Seth, Lindsay, Michael, Christopher, Katherine, Brittany, Taylor and Richard; and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves many dear friends. Gloria’s family and friends will miss her tremendously.

Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Ulric and Irene (Demers) L'Heureux and graduated from David Prouty High School. She served her country with the U.S. Navy during WWII and later furthered her education at the Worcester School of Business Science.

Gloria was a reading tutor at Lake St. School in Spencer for 17 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member and past Treasurer of the Spencer Garden Club and a volunteer for the Richard Sugden Library. Gloria enjoyed spending time outside-tending to her gardens of vegetables and flowers, going for walks with her dogs over the years, and relaxing on the deck with a good book. She liked to experiment in the kitchen and her loved ones will miss her soups and apple pies. Gloria’s happiest memories were moments shared with her family and friends. She was very proud of her family and loved them dearly. A special thank you to Tammy, for all of the love and care you gave Gloria; she loved you as a daughter and cherished all of the time you shared.
