Obituary

Marly G. Colon of Dorchester was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on August 2, 1978 passed away on January 12, 2019. Devoted mother of Avery Israel Menard.
Loving daughter of Markenson and Camille (Benoit) Colon. Sister of Amanda Sagine Colon. Granddaughter of Annette Jean Dessalines and is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Marly migrated from Haiti to the state of New Jersey with her mother and sister and later moved to Boston.At an early age, Marly displayed great resilience as she battled a life long disease of Sickle Cell Anemia.
Marly attended and completed high school at Josiah Upper Quincy High with hopes of becoming a nurse; she always expressed her desire to help people who were battling sickle cell anemia as she was, which inspired her dreams of becoming a nurse. With her determination and abambition Marly obtained her Bachelor's Degree at UMass Boston and worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for several years.
Marly loved her mother and her father unconditionally. Her mother was her best friend and her strength through her journey in life. At the age of 29 Marly experienced motherhood when she welcomed her son Avery Israel Menard into the world. Avery was Marly's entire world and the center of her life. Marly was a God-fearing woman who enjoyed traveling as an outlet to live life freely; she loved shopping and was always well dressed; her choice of foot wear always made a bold statement like her personality. Mostly everything she owned had to be purple, which was her favorite color.
Marly was not afraid to speak her mind; she was strongly opinionated and only wanted to live amonst positive virtues, morals, principles;, and most of all, Marly wanted to live amongst positive people. Shortly before her death she was determined to return to school to obtain her Master's Degree.
The family will receive visitors at the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale on Thursday, January 24 from 7-9 pm.
A funeral service will take place on Friday January 25 at 9 am at Boston Missionary Baptist Church, 336 Dudley Street, Boston.
Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale.
