Obituary

KENNEBUNK- Boyd Allan Swenson, 58 years old, a long-time resident of Kennebunk, passed away January 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer for four years. Boyd was born in Morristown, New Jersey on May 31, 1960, the son of Allan Armstrong and Sheila Jane (Haglund) Swenson.

Always the best athlete in the family, when he moved to Kennebunk, Maine in 1974, he immediately joined the summer soccer team, then in its first year. Boyd made many of his life-long friends through soccer and baseball on the Kennebunk school and summer teams. He was also passionate about golfing in the area, and for many years held various club championships at Dutch Elm golf course. More often than not, he would also win the annual Swenson Cup family golf tournaments, much to the dismay of his brothers, stepsons and nephews.

Boyd loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years of the companionship of his older brother Peter while hunting in the Maine woods. In addition, he learned to ski with so many of his friends at Mt Abram, then became a Sugarloafer and spent many years and long weekends skiing, hiking and golfing at Sugarloaf with his extended family.

On July 12, 2009 he married Lorraine Kimball and together raised her two sons in Kennebunk. Together they hosted many holiday and family events at their lovely home where he was the favorite uncle with a myriad of family games.

Boyd is survived by his wife of 9 years, Lorraine Kimball Swenson, two beloved stepsons, Trevor Luck of Boston and Casen Luck of Kennebunk, his father Allan Swenson, and three brothers, Peter Swenson of Lyman, Drew Swenson of Falmouth and Meade and his wife Ann Marie Swenson of Scarborough, his nieces Alyssa Swenson of Lyman and Kathryn Swenson of Cumberland and nephews Parker Swenson of South Portland and Erik Swenson of Scarborough.
