Obituary

Joseph M. Bucalo, age 68, passed away on Jan. 14, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on April 5, 1950 in Springfield, a son of the late Joseph M. Bucalo Sr., and Irene (Delude) Bucalo. Joe was a 1968 graduate of Cathedral High school then went on to receive his Bachelors Degree from AIC. He started his career as a teacher within the Chicopee and Enfield School Districts but left to pursue his love of carpentry where he had a distinguished career as a master carpenter. Joe will be remembered most for his infectious personality and his ability to bring laughter to so many. He was more than just funny though, he was smart, caring, & fearless if faced with a challenge. He had lived an adventurous life having been an avid scuba diver & skydiver in his early years. In High School and College he was a star football player and has always been a lifelong NY Giants fan, he loved to boast about seeing his beloved Giants crush the Patriots in SuperBowl 46. But most of all, Joe loved being surrounded by his family, whether it was taking trips with his wife Pam, home improvement projects with Dawn, comparing stories of adventures with Laura, being an amazing Papa to Vivian and Natalie, or always being the life of the party at family gatherings. Joe touched the lives of everyone around him in so many different ways. He has asked that we not mourn his death, but we celebrate his life. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pam (Fleury) Bucalo of Agawam; his two daughters, Dawn Erickson and her husband Chad of Westfield and Laura Bucalo of Agawam; his brother, Michael Bucalo and his wife Marie of Chicopee; his sister Mary Ann Kobylanski and her husband Bogumil “Bugsy” of Chicopee; his two cousins, who were like brothers to him, Donald and Thomas Bucalo both of FL, his mother and father in law Connie & Ronnie Fleury of Chicopee and his two beloved granddaughters Vivian and Natalie Erickson. We would like to thank the fantastic nurses from the Cardiac ICU at Baystate Medical Center for taking such good care of Joe. We welcome family and friends to Celebrate Joe's life on Saturday, January 19, from 1PM- 4PM at the American Legion Post 452, 43 Exchange Street Chicopee.
