West Baldwin - Richard Eugene "Gene" Black, 63, of West Baldwin died at his home unexpectedly on January 14, 2019. He was born in Portland on May 8, 1955 the son of Charles and Hazel (Fitts) Black. He attended Baldwin schools and was a graduate of Sacopee Valley High School in 1973.

Gene worked 43 years at Limington Lumber in East Baldwin. He worked as a lumber grader there and was a valued and well respected employee.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a true stock car racing fan, from NASCAR to being on a pit crew at Beech Ridge Speedway. Gene also coached several youth baseball and softball teams, especially when his children were young. He also liked collecting coins and minerals, and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Above all, he loved his family. Gene was very loyal to his family and his friends and will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Surviving are his 2 children: Debbie Boulanger and husband Nathaniel of West Baldwin, and Keven Black of West Baldwin. His 4 grandchildren: Braden Black, Gabriella Black, Emma Boulanger and Carter Boulanger. His significant other of almost 9 years, Carol Frost, and her 3 children: Donald Frost, his wife Ciaran, and thier daughter Oakley, Julia Frost and Jessica Frost. Also his sister, Sheryl Black of West Baldwin and his nephew, Ricky Black.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, January 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. A graveside service will be in West Baldwin in the spring. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mainefuneral.com
