Neil Baker, age 77, a lifelong Weymouth resident passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 9, 2019. Neil was born in 1941 and attended Weymouth Schools. He graduated from Dean Junior College with a degree in Business. Neil was married in 1964 to Helen McDonough at Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth. They settled in Weymouth where they started a family and have cultivated many great memories over the years. Neil worked at his family store, Baker’s 5 and 10, in both the Weymouth and Hingham locations and later joined the Weymouth Fire Department in 1969. He retired from the fire department in 2002. Neil was involved in town politics as a Town Meeting member for many years.
In Neil’s retirement he was able to enjoy many relaxing years with his wife and family. He also owned and operated the Country Corner Clock Shop, collected antiques, was a member of the Mayflower Society, enjoyed many rides in his 1975 Oldsmobile, and shared many good times and funny jokes with his family.
Neil is survived by his beloved wife Helen Baker (McDonough) of Weymouth, his loving children Michael Baker of Weymouth, Brian Baker and his wife Theresa, David Baker and his wife Jessica, John Baker and his wife Tracy all of Weymouth, and Matthew Baker and his wife Joanna of Portland, ME. Neil is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, his siblings Kathy Forte of Dennis, MA and Earl Baker of Parrish FL, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Neil on Monday January 14, 2019 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday morning for a Celebration of Life at 9:30am prior to the Funeral Mass in honor of Neil’s life which will take place in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30am. Burial will immediately follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers a charitable donation may be made to the Weymouth Firefighters Local 1616, P.O. Box 441 Weymouth, MA. 02188.
