Anthony "Tony" Lastella, age 80, of 5 Barton Lane, Ledyard, went to be with the Lord with his wife of 53 years at this bedside in their home on December 22, 2005.
Tony was born November 21, 1925, in New York City. He married Barbara (Wood) Lastella on June 28, 1952.
He served in the US Navy during World War II, being honorable discharged in 1946. He owned and operated Star Oil Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1977.
In his spare time, he loved to listen to classical music, especially while in his workshop making furniture for his family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronald Lastella and his wife Linda of Ledyard: two daughters, Sharon Newer an dher husband Wade of Keene, NH, Nancy Heard and her husband Roddy of Tarpin Springs, FL; four grandchildren, Sara Lastella of Troy, NY, Michael Lastella of Hartford, CT, Christopher Newer and his wife Jamie with great-grandson Conner of Keene, NH, and Keith Newer with his wife Rachael of Groton, CT. He also leaves a sister Elaine Allen of Tallahassee, FL. Two sisters predeceased him, Rose Bedard and Millie Ruel.
His funeral service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday at 2pm. Pastor Steve Watrous of the Ledyard Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard. There are no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
