Obituary


Douglas R. Beucler, formerly of Groton Long Point, and Leonia, N.J., died Dec. 22, 2005, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Bergenfield, N.J., on June 22, 1912, and attended Tenafly (N.J.) High School. Mr. Beucler was a 1939 graduate of New York University where he also pursued graduate studies in accounting and taxation. During his senior year he was the president of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity.

A certified public accountant for more that 50 years, he practiced on his own account in New York City and northern New Jersey. At the time of his retirement in 1992, Mr. Beucler was a director and the vice chairman of the Northern Valley-Englewood Savings Bank in New Jersey.

During his career he also served as a trustee and assistant treasurer of the Englewood Hospital. He was a past treasurer and trustee of the Leonia Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Englewood and New York City Rotary Clubs. He also served as secretary and treasurer of the Knickerbocker Country Club, in Englewood.

He served in World War II for four years in the Army Finance Corps. He was one of 17 men selected to open a fiscal office in Noumea, New Caledonia. He left the South Pacific in late 1945 to terminate war contracts for the Signal Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Margery Beucler of Groton; his son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Barbara Beucler of Villanova, Pa.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and David Evans of Groton Long Point; four grandchildren, Geoffrey Beucler and Linda Duncan of Pennsylvania, and Daniel Evans and Rebecca Evans of Massachusetts; and four great-grandchildren.

A small memorial service will be held for family and close friends in the Dodd Room at the Groton Long Point Casino, at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Southeast CT Community Center for the Blind, 120 Broad St., New London CT 06320.
