Obituary


WINDHAM- Edward "John" John Cunningham, age 75, passed away on January 8, 2019
at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine after a courageous
battle with heart disease and cancer. Edward was born in Portland, Maine on August
31, 1943, a son of the late Stephen and Leona (Foster) Cunningham.


After graduating from Portland High School, Ed went on to volunteer for the United States
Army. Ed proudly served in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic conflict. After
serving for 3 years in the Army, Edward married Lucille Ann Burnell and fathered two
children, David and Jonathan.

For 24 years, Edward was employed by Maine Central Railroad where he worked as an
Operations Clerk. After, Edward went on to work for Deering Ice Cream, and finally
IDEXX Laboratories in Westbrook, Maine.

Edward enjoyed fishing, hunting, relaxing at home watching baseball, football and
"a good movie", and spending time with his son Jonathan, friends Hank and Bonnie
Pooler and all of the Cain families.

He was a member of the VFW, Disabled Veterans of America and the Wounded Warrior
Project.

Edward is predeceased by a brother- Stephen Cunningham Jr., who passed away in
1994.

Edward is survived by his two sons- Jonathan Cunningham of Fort Myers, Florida and
David Cunningham.


A graveside memorial with full military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans
Memorial cemetery in Augusta, Maine at a date to be announced.


A celebration of life will be held at the Cain residence on Jan. 20, 2019, Cain Rd.,
Vassalboro
