Obituary



SEBAGO- George C. Tinkham Jr., age 88, passed away on Jan. 7, 2019 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
He was born in Portland on Nov. 19, 1930, a son of the late George Sr. and Anna (Boyle) Tinkham and graduated from Portland High School in 1948.
George proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
For many years, George worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring in 1985 he owned and operated the Shop and Chop Tree Farm in Sebago.
He will always be remembered for the enjoyment he had with antique cars, golfing, yard-sales, buying Christmas related items, and playing cards.
George was also very active in his community. He served as a Selectman from 1989 – 1998 for the Town of Sebago, was active in the Sebago Lions Club where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship, and Christmas tree growing associations.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years- Elizabeth (Moffatt) Tinkham in 2013; and a sister- June M. Spiller.
He is survived by his children- Dennis and Daniel Tinkham; siblings- L. Donald Tinkham, Francis D. Tinkham and his wife Etchan, Ruth A. Briggs and her husband Robert, and Philip E. Tinkham and his wife Diane; five grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday Jan. 12 at 11 AM at the Sebago Center Community Church, 415 Bridgton Road in Sebago. Burial will be in the spring at New Sebago Cemetery.
