Daniel Richard Maher, 73 passed away on January 2, 2019 in Ventura, California. Dan was born in Croswell, Michigan to Michael and Mary (O’Mara) Maher on February 7, 1945. Dan was the oldest of nine children. He went to Catholic Central High School and graduated in 1963. He earned a law degree from Wayne State in 1970 and started his career in law at the age of 25. Dan enjoyed writing, painting and spending time with friends and family. He was a long time resident of Bakersfield, CA. After spending much time in private practice he devoted the last 12 years of his career advocating on behalf of the children of Kern County. He served on Kern County Counsel until he retired and moved to Ventura, CA with his wife JoAnn in 2007.
Dan is survived by his wife JoAnn St Louis of Ventura, CA, daughter Shannon Reyes, son Sean (Tristian) Maher and grandsons Steven, Erik and Brendan Reyes of Bakersfield, CA, brother; Michael Maher of Springport, MI, sisters; Mary Ellen Maher of Charlotte, MI, Ann Maher of Eaton Rapids, MI, Maureen (Greg) Matfey of Novi, MI, Patty (Doug) Cook Milford, MI, Cathy (Glen) Smith of Charlotte, MI, Joanie Raymond of St. Clair Shores, MI and many nieces and nephews.
Proceeding him in death are his parents and brother Tim Maher of Eaton Rapids, MI.
