Obituary

AUBURN___George F. Bakanas, 84, of Auburn, a former longtime resident of Florida died on Thursday December 27, 2018 in St. Vincent Hospital.

George is survived by two daughters, Gina Gaudette of Rutland and Christine Provencher and her husband Alan of East Brookfield; three grandchildren, Daniel, Amanda and Samantha, one great-granddaughter, Sophia, a sister, Karen Falco and her husband John of Quinebaug, CT., and nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, a son of the late George J. and Julia F. (Stiness) Bakanas. Another sister, Joan V. Nichols died in 1990. He graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School. George was a U.S. Navy veteran and served four years during the Korean War era.

Mr. Bakanas worked as a mechanic many years for Pan Am Airlines and retired many years ago. Before then he worked for Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies in East Hartford, Ct. George was an accomplished bowler. He loved Florida and the sunshine. He also enjoyed shopping especially for the latest tech.

A Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday January 7, 2019 in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester is assisting his family.
