Obituary

Katherine “Kate” Suydam, of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Kate was born in Columbia, PA on April 12, 1936 to the late Jacob and Violet (Moore) Myers. She has been a resident of Gales Gerry since 1964. She received her General Banking Diploma from the American Institute of Banking. She also was a graduate of the Connecticut School of Finance & Management.

She enjoyed a long distinguished career in banking, first working at Norwich Savings Society before accepting a position at Chelsea Groton Savings Bank where she remained for 23 years, starting as a teller and advancing her way to Assistant Vice President/Regional Branch Manager. She valued her friendships and relationships she acquired through her years with the bank.

Kate was also on the Board of Directors of Seabird Enterprises and was a member of the Mystic Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her siblings, Don Myers of Aiken, SC, Joanne Goodman and her husband Stan of Aiken, SC, and Martha Gerfin of Camp Hill, PA; her children, Kelle Bellinger and husband Bill of Amsterdam, NY, Ryck Suydam and wife Brenda of Keller, TX,; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Kaitlyn, Rhianna of NY, and Autumn and Heather of TX; and great-grandson, Jeremiah of NY. She was predeceased by her long time companion, Bernie Johnson of Mystic and a brother, Robert Myers.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for making Kates’s last few months comfortable.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 5-8pm. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles M. Baker of St. David's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
