Newell Gene Warren, age 87, of Water Valley, MS died peacefully Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford with his family by his side. He was born June 25, 1931 in Pontotoc, MS to the late Henry, and Nona Huckaby Warren and was self employed as a small appliance repair man. He enjoyed exploring old home places and spending time with his family as well as his brothers. Gene was a Army veteran who gladly served his country during the Korean war. He was also member of Anchor Baptist.
Visitation is planned for Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Services will begin at 2:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Gerald Shook officiating. Burial will be in Shipp Cemetery with Ashley Grantham, Jonathan Grantham, Billy Warren, Brandon Warren, Kenny Warren, Lynn Warren, J.B. Warren and Wayne Warren serving as pallbearers.
Gene is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gladys Warren of Water Valley, MS; a son, Terry Warren (Cindy) of Oxford, MS; a daughter, Sherry Maharrey (Mark) of Oxford, MS; three step daughters, Ester Thweatt (Rickey) Linda Burns (Donny), and Shelia Huckaby (Bobby) all of Oxford, MS; one step son, Jamie Hickman of Coffeeville, MS; four brothers, Wayne Warren, Billy Warren, J.B. Warren, and Kenny Warren; and one sister, Sybil King.
Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Gandy and Jaunice Anthony.
