Bernard E. “Tony” Hearn, 73, of Smithfield, RI died Sunday June 23, 2002 at the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, N. Providence, RI following a lengthy illness. He was born in Lawrence, MA on November 28, 1928, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Mansour) Hearn. He was a resident of Smithfield, RI for two years, formerly living in Manchester and Derry, NH. He spent much of his early life traveling. He moved to Pawtucket, RI in the early 1960’s, relocated to New Hampshire for the majority of his life, and lived the past two years in Emerald Bay Manor, Cumberland, RI and North Bay Manor, Smithfield, RI. Mr. Hearn was the former husband of Loretta Hearn Jehlicka. He loved dogs and Boston Terriers in particular, fostering a love for animals in his two daughters. He also enjoyed horses and trained them for racing, usually at Suffolk Downs, East Boston, MA, Rockingham Park, Salem, NH, and Narragansett Racetrack, Pawtucket, RI. Mr. Hearn later drove for Coutu Horse Transport and was last employed as a truck driver for Parker Fuel Corp. for Haffner’s Service Stations, Inc., Lawrence, MA.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in law, Sheri Hearn Lazar and Stuart Lazar, of East Greenwich, RI and his daughter Angela Hearn of Epsom, NH.
Following cremation in Rhode Island, Memorial calling hours will be held Friday June 28th from 7-9pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Prayers will be offered during calling hours at 7:30PM.
