
Herman George Pitts, Jr., 68, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died December 22, 2018, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, December 24, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Pitts was born April 6, 1950, in Arcadia, Florida, to the late Herman George Pitts, Sr. and Reva Springfield. He was a high school graduate and served his country honorably in the United States Army in Vietnam. He worked for Delphi for 31 years in maintenance. He always had a joke to tell and his nickname at Delphi was Hubba Bubba and to others around town as “Big Herm”. He was a journeyman in Skill Trades. He was a DLS little league coach for baseball, softball, basketball, and football. He was a charter member of the Fitzgerald Optimist Club. His passion was working with children. He was a volunteer firefighter as well as being part of the BUS Ministry at the former Northside Baptist Church. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing and he loved to do anything with his family. He was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mevelyn Pitts of Fitzgerald; sons, Steven Pitts & Brandi of Fitzgerald, and Joseph Pitts & Mallory of Tifton; daughters, Jennifer Mitchell of Fitzgerald, Mary-Katherine Ellis & Tim of Warner Robins and Sherri Mayo Lazenby of Gordon; grandchildren, Karson Blake Ellis, Autumn Grace Mitchell, Kayden Bradley Pitts, Vaeda Claire Pitts, and Kase Royal Pitts; sister-in-law, Sherry Shealey of Adel; brother-in-law, Ralph Brown, of Fitzgerald. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews of Adel.
