Roma Yvonne (Youk-See) de Silva of Malden passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, December 19th. She was 82. Born and raised in Trinidad, she was the daughter of the late John and Ivy (O'Neal) Youk-See.
Roma loved to spend time with her family. She especially loved her grandchildren. Roma's family were her pride and joy, they were her world. She enjoyed cooking and baking, everything was made from scratch. She was known for her curry, wonton soup, mac and cheese and black cake, just to name a few.
A natural seamstress, there was not one thing that Roma could not create: pajamas, blankets, pillows, dresses and curtains were her specialty. She enjoyed family vacations back home to Trinidad, sitting on the beach in Aruba and traveling the seas on numerous cruises. One of her favorite vacationing spots was at her sister in-law Annette's house in Mayaro, where you could find her soaking up the sun and watching the ocean. Roma was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and caring friend, she will be missed greatly.
Roma was the devoted mother of Larry de Silva and his wife Odile, Karen de Silva and her husband George, Lisa Olton and her husband Beltron, Michele de Silva and Nigel de Silva and his wife Pamela. A loving mother figure to Nicholas de Silva, Sheldon de Silva and the late Gezille Proudfoot. She was the loving grandmother of Stefan, Kerri and her husband Kevin Pham, Niccolo, Cristian, Lauren, Alanna, Sophia, Daniel, Brandon, Gabriella, John and Dane. Roma was the dear sister of Yolande Youk-See, Robert Youk-See and the late Lucille Soo-Yee, Clinton Youk-See and Kelvin Youk-See. She is also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, December 29th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday, December 28th from 6 to 8 PM. Interment will be private.
