Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Cynthia D. “Cindy” (Anable) Landers, 72, of the Atwater Park section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on September 15, 1946, a beloved daughter of the late John G. and Grace I. (Wentworth) Anable. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. Cindy furthered her education and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Western New England College in Springfield and later a Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant. She was last employed as the Business Manager for the Hampshire Regional School District and previously served as the Business Manager for the Ware Public Schools. She was also the former Chief Financial Officer for the PVTA in Springfield and a former CPA for Kalmen & Kakley, CPA, Donald Houghton, CPA and Main, LaFrance, Herdman and Cranston, CPA, all in Springfield. She was a member of the Atwater Park Association in Springfield. During her leisure time, Cindy donated many hours of her expertise in accounting to many local churches and civic organizations. She also was a fierce accomplished advocate for equality for women in the workplace. She taught macramé and accounting principles at several of the area colleges. Most of all, Cindy loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, James R. Landers. They were married at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield on April 20, 1974 and were blessed with over 44 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving son, Sean M. Landers and his wife, Beth Hinners, of Dallas, TX; her two dear sisters-in-law, Elinor Gebo of East Longmeadow and June Ann Landers of West Springfield; her four cherished nephews, Thomas Landers and his wife, Riki Ann, Brendan Landers and his wife, Lilly, Colm Landers and his wife, Shannon, and Gregory Gebo and his partner, Liz Monteleone; her three cherished nieces, Maryann Fusco, Pamela Zeiler and her husband, Robert, and Debra Gebo; and her many dear cousins, friends and extended members of the Landers and Anable families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her two dear brothers-in-law, Thomas Landers and Edward Landers, and her dear sister-in-law, Teresa Woods. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.). Her burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Arise for Social Justice, 467 State Street, Springfield, MA 01105.
