Leslie Britt, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Pruitt Health in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the Fitzgerald Church of God with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and the Rev. Derrell Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Britt was born December 31, 1928, in Barnesville, North Carolina, to the late Kelly & Cella Britt. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Britt drove a truck for Winn-Dixie and Crown Zillerback in south Florida and worked as a welder on the railroad. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1973. He was owner and operator of Wayside Grocery and Wayside Tire, and later Britt’s Tire and Auto. Mr. Britt enjoyed fishing and bowling and was an active member of Fitzgerald Church of God. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and his poodle, Precious.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eunice Britt of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Barbara Gail Whitley & Tim of Rebecca, Leslie Dale Parten & Hugh of Adairsville, Torrie Olivia Holton & Brad of Rebecca, Dwayne Kelly Britt & Raynell of Milledgeville, and Bryan O’Neal Britt & Candice of Fitzgerald; seventeen grandchildren: Chucky White & Carrie, Brandi Pendergrass & David, Craig Whitley, Tabatha Whitley, Amanda Hester & Brian, Holly Parten, Madison Parten, Bridgett Parten, Kendall Britt, Ryland Britt, Nicole Holton, Hailey Holton, Brittney Holton, Bradley Holton, LouLou Britt, Luke Britt, and Layken Britt; a granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Parten; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Ree Jackson of Lumberton, North Carolina and Peggy Walters of Shannon, North Carolina; and four brothers: Buddy Britt of Lumberton, North Carolina, Bert Britt of Ohio, Jay Britt of Rennert, North Carolina, and Wayne Britt of Rennert, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jeffrey Parten and Ashley Parten and a great-granddaughter, Audrey Ann White.
