Dorothea P. (Poulos) Correia, 68, of East Freetown passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday December 12, 2018. She was born in New Bedford to the late Dr. John Poulos and Bessie (Valcanas) Poulos. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to Arthur A. Correia, Jr.
Dorothea earned her Bachelor's degree in education from Ohio State University. She was a dedicated teacher of 35 years in the New Bedford Public Schools, having spent most of her career at the Pulaski School.
Dorothea loved knitting, gardening, spending summers on the beach, and caring for animals. She was known for her quick wit and flamboyant style. She shared a very special relationship with her four sisters who were her best friends, and had a very close bond with her niece Gretchen. Most of all her son Nicholas was her pride and joy and the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband Arthur; her son Nicholas and his companion Monyca Vickers; her four sisters, Gloria Hebert and her husband Gerry, Connie Rodrigues and her husband Eddie, Joanne Costa and her husband Marty, and Vicki Kelleher and her husband Tom; along with many nieces and nephews and her dearest friend, Lillian Reynolds.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at 10 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Cross Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
