Obituary

87, of North Olney Street, Johnston RI, passed peacefully on December 12th in the presence of her family after a short illness. Born in Providence, RI, she was the wife of the late Francis T. Toomey and the daughter of the late James T. O’Hearn and Eunice R. (Riel) O’Hearn.
A graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Providence RI and Rhode Island College, Ann was a teacher at the Graniteville School in Johnston RI. A 65-year resident of Johnston, she was a founding member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. Active in her community, Ann was member of the board of directors for Marian J. Mohr library in Johnston and a Den Mother for Johnston Cub Scout Pack 1.
Ann’s lasting contribution was as a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was the proud mother to six children and grandmother to nine. A true inspiration, Ann was totally dedicated to her family and their well-being. She was always their champion, willingly embraced their hopes and dreams, and sacrificed all to make them a reality.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Elizabeth A. Anderson and her husband Keith and son Michael of Gambrills MD, Michael F. Toomey and his wife Laura and his sons Joseph and Matthew of Richmond RI, Christopher J. Toomey and his wife Regina and children Patrick and Brenna of Westerly, RI, James T. Toomey and his wife Lynne and sons Eric and Sean of Greene, RI, Jane M. Toomey and her husband Dave Matsas and daughters Bridget and Hannah Matsas of Woodstock CT, and Robert F. Toomey and his wife Anastasia of Denver CO. She is predeceased by her brother James T. O’Hearn Jr, and is also survived by her sister Barbara J. Anker of Stafford VA.
Funeral Tuesday, December 18th at 9am from Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave, Johnston, Followed by internment at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Monday 4-7pm.
