James P. Hennessey, 79, of Berlin, passed away on Thursday December 13, 2018 at the St. Vincent de Paul Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born in Littleton, NH on March 22, 1939 the son of the late John and Stella (Bagley) Hennessey and was raised there. He was educated in the Littleton school system and graduated from Littleton High School in 1957. He graduated from Plymouth Teacher’s College in 1964 and resided for a time in Lancaster, where he taught science at the high school. He later came to Berlin where he taught science at Berlin High School. James was a member of Good Shepherd Parish and the Androscoggin Valley Country Club. He was an active golfer and sports fan, especially the Red Sox and New England Patriots. Jim was an excellent athlete and had enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and football. He had been Captain of the Littleton High School Football Team when they won the State Championship in 1956.
Family includes his wife Nancy (Porretta) Hennessey of Berlin, NH; step-sons David Bellefeuille and wife Sherry Ann of Morrison, CO and Paul Bellefeuille and wife Lise of Waterford, VT; step-grandchildren Brittany and Aaron; siblings Michael Hennessey and wife Molly of Little Rock, AR, Ann Ryan of Colorado Springs, CO, Edward Hennessey and wife Erin of Littleton, NH, Patricia Roberts and husband Jeffrey of Waterboro, ME, Paul Hennessey and wife Pam of Littleton, NH and Jack Hennessey and wife Linda of Scarborough, ME; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Carsley) Hennessey and a brother Charles Hennessey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, on Monday evening from 5 to 7 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
