Obituary

AGAWAM ~ Carl H. McKenzie, Jr., 76, of Agawam was Called Safely Home on Saturday, December 8, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on April 8, 1942, a beloved son of the late Carl H. McKenzie, Sr. and Camille (Stevens) McKenzie. He was raised in Springfield and graduated in 1961 from Springfield Trade High School. He served his country in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Radioman Third Class. Following his military service, he was employed by Hamilton Standard, Paramount Photography Studio and was the owner/operator of the former Scottie Sheldon Studio on Bridge Street in Springfield. He was then a sales agent at George & Green Real Estate and Ayre Realty for many years. Most recently, he worked as a broker manager at Keller Williams Realty. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church and currently a communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, horse racing enthusiast and he loved playing hearts. He was a loving man with a great sense of humor who adored his family and his many dear friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 30 years, Claire A. (Margosiak) McKenzie; his six loving children, Sheila and John Anderson, Christine Strohman and Jay Muse, Kathleen and Aaron McNichols, Patricia McKenzie, Carl and Cathy McKenzie, Lauren McKenzie and Travis Hall; his cherished 11 grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Ellen, Sarah Anderson, Andrew and Kayla Strohman, Jacob Strohman, Curran, Casey, Camille, Caroline McKenzie and Natalie Hall; his loving sister, Janice and Jim Walsh; his former wife, Kathleen (O’Connell) McKenzie; his mother-in-law, Helen Margosiak; his in-laws, Edward and Gail Margosiak, John and Barbara Margosiak, Larry and Monica Malfitano; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Robert McKenzie. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, December 17, 2018 at 9 a.m. (Please meet directly at the church), Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. His Committal Service with United States Navy Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
