Obituary

Stella B. (Barboza) DePina, 93, of New Bedford died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Bonaventura and Laura (Perry) Barboza, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mrs. DePina was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was also proud to have helped the war effort during World War II by working at Goodyear.

She enjoyed the beach, visiting Fort Taber, taking bus trips to Foxwoods, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a lover of anything leopard.

Survivors include her son, Robert DePina of New Bedford; her daughter, Hazel Britto and her husband Alan of New Bedford; her sister, Laura Baptiste of Freetown; 7 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Stanley Pina and Hermano DePina and the sister of the late George Barboza, John Barboza, Manuel Barboza, Bonaventura Barboza, Isadore Barboza and Lucy Fonseca.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
