Obituary

Timothy J. Sullivan, age 79, passed away on Dec. 6, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on Aug. 26, 1939 in Chicopee, the son of the late Timothy J. and Marie T. (Ahberg) Sullivan. He graduated from St Jerome's High School in Holyoke and was on a number of sports teams. Timothy served his country in the US Navy from 1958-1960. During this time he was stationed on the aircraft carrier Saratoga where he said "I ran the store and did whatever I wanted".  He worked for many years at Savage Arms In Westfield. During this time he was the Union President for the Hassett Lodge 1420 of the IAMAW and served as the Vice President of the local AFL/CIO. He next worked for the Commonwealth's Industrial Accident Board where he was a Conciliator and Arbitrator. He was also a honorary Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Michael Ashe. Tim was a very active man, loved sports and politics was his life-blood. He knew everyone, had a strong voice and opinions and helped a lot of people. He served as a Town Alderman in Chicopee for 12 years and served as the President of the Board for several years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, The Elks, the Knights of Columbus and the Tigers AC. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Efrosini  "Effie" (Adamopolous) Sullivan of Chicopee; his daughter Christina Sullivan of Chicopee; his step-daughters Corina Roy and her husband James of Ludlow and Cynthia Labrie and her husband David of Chicopee; his sister Ann Marie Gelinas of Chicopee; his grandchildren Jack Roy, Camrin Labrie and Skylar Labrie. He is also survived by his nephew Luke Gelinas and his wife Lorraine and by his grandnephews Patrick and Mike. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec.13, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday Dec. 14, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Rose de Lima Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the St Jude Children’s Hospital, 626 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
