Obituary

Worcester: Dorcas Kreny (Mangsen) passed away peacefully at the age 104. She was born on April 23, 1914, the daughter of Herman and Alma Mangsen and was one of twelve children. Her only surviving sibling is David Mangsen of Florida. Dorcas is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Mangsen and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, John Kreny and her long-time companion Charlie O’Connor predeceased her. Dorcas was a member of First Baptist Church.

Dorcas was a proofreader at Colonial press for 39 years and was an avid reader herself reading the newspaper daily and watching Wheel of Fortune. On her 100th birthday the mayor presented Dorcas with a key to the city for her commitment as a lifelong resident of Worcester.

Dorcas was an enthusiastic sports fan cheering on the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots and had attended several games. She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Ireland, England, Florida and Maine. Dorcas enjoyed the companionship of her loving sister-in-law, Mary Mangsen and their adventures to the apple orchard, the ocean and their drives to go leaf-peeping and viewing the Christmas lights throughout the city and towns.

Her caregivers at the Lutheran Home served as a second family extending patience, gentle care, and daily humor. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Lutheran Home and the staff of Compassus for their skillful compassionate care.
