Gilda P. (Perez) Harrison, 88, of Somerset, died December 4, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Benedict J. "John" Harrison, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Jose G. and Gilda C. (Carreiro) Perez, she lived in New Bedford most of her life before moving to Somerset in 1996.
Mrs. Harrison was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church in Somerset.
She was formerly employed as a teacher at New Bedford Vocational High School and Fairhaven High School.
Mrs. Harrison was an active member of St. Thomas More Retirees, and an active quilter and lifetime member of Shining Tides Quilters. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1948.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joanne Friar and her husband Donald of Somerset; a son, Mark B. Harrison of Somerset; 4 sisters, Carmen Sylvia of Lincoln, RI, Dolores Vasconcellos of New Bedford, Juanita Ward of Plymouth and Adeline Brenizer and her husband Ned of Ft. Wayne, IN; 6 grandchildren, Christopher Friar and his wife Flyn Ludington, James Friar, Elizabeth Friar, Mary Friar and her husband Zackary Gagnon, Maren Harrison and Hailey Harrison; 2 great-grandchildren, Harwyn and Beatrix Friar; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Carlos M. Perez.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 10th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 9th from 2-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America, P.O.
