Obituary

Ann Marie (Stamler) Barber, 101, of Noank died on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at her home. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles William Barber.

She was born on April 12, 1917, the daughter of George J. and Mary (Schlett) Stamler. She grew up on a 20-acre farm in Manchester, CT with eleven siblings. On August 8, 1942, she married Charles William Barber. Her husband, Bill, was a long-haul truck driver for many years, so while he was on the road, she maintained a loving household raising their three sons and two daughters. She always welcomed the neighborhood kids into her home. She was an excellent cook and baker, inviting any visitors to dinner or to enjoy her pies, cookies, cakes and home brewed ice tea.

Ann loved books and was an avid reader. She got a kick out of the entertainment value and silliness that the tabloids provided.

Ann was happy, welcoming, generous and kind and knew how to make people feel comfortable. She was smart, funny, and a great mother. She will be dearly missed by many.

She is survived by her two sons, Charles William and David Wheeler, two daughters, Marie Milam and Margaret Barber, as well as three grandsons and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her son Peter.

Ann's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 12, from 10:00 to 12 at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Services will conclude with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
