PHIPPSBURG- Sandra Jean (Dolloff) Nash, age 64, passed peacefully at Gosnell in Scarborough, surrounded by her immediate family on December 4th, 2018 after suffering a stroke November 11th.
Sandy was born in Portland, Maine on September 18th, 1954. She graduated from Greely High School.
Her love of animals was known to all. She would feed any critter that happened to come along, whether they were a domesticated animal or a wild animal. She loved to watch all of the animals enjoy the food she put out for them. She could tell you that raccoons love powdered donuts and that foxes look pretty funny trotting off with a hot dog hanging out of their mouth! Her love of animals did not deter her from fishing! She loved bass fishing, striper fishing, and fishing for crappie. After a giggle she’d tell you it’s pronounced craw-pea!
Sandy is predeceased by her mother, Arline R. (Mains) Wales, and many other family members she cared for deeply.
Sandy is survived by her best friend, partner-in-crime, and love David Antell Sr. of Phippsburg, Maine, her brother Timothy J. Wales of Buxton, Maine, her daughter Sarah M. Nash and her partner John A. Milliard of Buxton, Maine, her granddaughter Emily K. Smith and her partner Jonathan N. David of Hollis, Maine, as well as two spoiled cats, Chuck and Chut who’ve been stress eating since this whole ordeal began. There’s a mile long list of friends and family to add, but we can’t take up the whole paper!
Sandy was known for her love of music. She could tell you who sang just about every song that would come on the radio! She was excited to enjoy online music downloading hundreds upon hundreds of songs in Spotify. She was constantly turning people on to new artists she would hear on satellite radio.
Sandy made earrings for her loved ones and friends. Those of us who were the lucky recipients of her gifts, can wear these earrings and remember her forever!
Sandy was a generous person who was always willing to help others more than she’d ever help herself. She was always saying, “If I could defecate through my elbow I’d give my bum away!” (You know she didn’t say it this way, but the paper won’t allow swear words!) She would always help out with fundraisers by either donating raffle items or cooking food. She and David put together many years’ worth of food baskets during the holidays for the less fortunate families in their area. She had the list started for the Thanksgiving baskets when she fell ill. David took on the task of finishing her two page list of items and got the baskets to the families for the holiday. If you ever went to their house for a meal you know you’d end up leaving with a weeks’ worth of leftovers to enjoy! You might even leave with a new coat or something else she and David thought you should have!
She would not want any of us to be sad from her passing. She’d want us to enjoy life, and to remember her as often as possible. There are a few other sayings that she used frequently that we can’t put into print, but her close circle of family and friends know what they are, and you’re likely chuckling reading this! Mom was a jokester, and no topic was off limits! Her laugh, lightning quick wit, and her fun loving personality will be missed by us all.
Sandy did not want a funeral service because she didn’t want you all gawking at her in a casket, but she was okay with the idea of a celebration of life. Next summer we will have a party to remember her. There will be lots of food, beer, and laughter because those three things are synonymous with Sandy. She’d be proud to tell you that she did not die of “eff you see kay eye en gee” cancer! (Again, we must keep it clean.) Rest easy Mom. We love you more!
