Mary Magdalene Lockerman of Tifton died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Brantley Seymour and Rev. Larry Cone will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. William P. Steed, Dewayne A. Haman, Zachariah M. Steed, Spencer Lockerman, Trevor Lockerman, Prentice L. Hill, Kenny Kohls and George Hill will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary Ann Neiman, Michelle Barfield, Stephanie Nichols, Melanie Nichols, Lyn Kohls, Jennifer Paige, Allison Lockerman, Lorie Kohls and Melissa Wagner. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, December 22, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson. The body will lie in state until the hour of service.
Ms. Lockerman was born January 5, 1920 in Irwin County. She was the daughter of Joel Jackson Gay and Hattie Ann Farmer Gay, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George M. Lockerman. Ms. Lockerman had lived in Tifton since 1945, was a seamstress and former Cotton Mill employee and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, George William Lockerman of Sarasota, FL; 5 daughters: Mary Carol Haman of Worth County, Judy Ann Canady of Acworth, Brenda K. McKuhen and Linda Fay Herbst, both of Tifton and Rose Ellen Nichols of Brookfield; and a special daughter-in-law, Cathy Lockerman of Tifton and 21 grandchildren.
